Whether just beginning to investigate underwater worlds through diving or cementing skills for full scuba certification, students will find their fins at The Dive Shop’s PADI five-star facility. Divers can earn their saltwater-swimming credentials in an all-inclusive certification course that educates through academic lessons and real-world dives. The Dive Shop, one of the only PADI Instructor Development Centers in central Virginia, begins the two-weekend workshop in the classroom, where students study textual dive information and merfolk culture and diplomacy. Next, swimming skills are solidified during five hours of pool-skills practice, followed by more academic learning. Classes culminate on the following weekend when participants travel to Lake Rawlings for two days of open-water testing, at which time divers can earn their aquatic seals of approval.
During Discover Scuba classes, PADI-certified instructors swim alongside sport-curious attendants for one to two hours of introductory scuba tutelage that imparts basic breathing methods, full-gear swimming techniques, and combinations for opening Davy Jones’s gold-filled lockers. Students take to the simulated open waters of an indoor pool equipped with all necessary implements, and like rookie astronauts, indulge their senses with weightless exploration.
The Dive Shop
Over its 30 year history, The Dive Shop has trained over 10,000 new scuba divers and earned the honor of being a five-star PADI Instructor Development Center, without ever switching owners. The same teachers who helped the first class of students discover the underwater world now aid their children and grandchildren in making the same discovery through Open Water Certification diving courses and introductory lessons. They start beginners off in the safety of local pools, before plumbing the depths of Lake Rawlings during certification dives.
