Meat, like broccoli and a good book, is best digested after it has been dipped in warm water and fully cooked in logic. Enjoy well-prepared meat and more with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of comfort fare and thirst quenchers at The Farm Bar & Grille in Essex.
The Farm Bar & Grille, which was named a Hidden Jewel by Phantom Gourmet, envelops its house-made, generously portioned, and made-from-scratch comfort fare in a casual and fun atmosphere. The chefs present inventive plates such as the barbecue nachos—hand-cut fried tortilla chips lovingly layered with slow-smoked pulled pork, aged vermont cheddar, homemade barbecue sauce, salsa, and sour cream ($9). All of The Farm’s smoked meats slowly bathe in aromatic smoke from local hardwood, and then fall off the bone onto plates. Baby back ribs lend their meaty goodness to discerning carnivorous palates ($16 half-rack, $22 whole), while vegetarians can enjoy salads like The Seasonal, with sliced apples, mesclun greens, walnuts, cranberries and blue cheese; topped with their house made dressing ($9). Poseidon rises up to compete with Demeter with the haddock full fish tacos, three grilled flour tortillas filled with grilled haddock, lettuce, tomato, guacamole and served with cheese and jalapeños ($14). Midday-meal-seekers can also sample soups such as clam chowder or hearty chili with an escort of grilled cheese ($8), or their California club with dry rubbed grilled chicken, avocado, american cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo served on fresh-baked multigrain bread with hand-cut Idaho potato fries & a dill pickle ($9).
The Farm accompanies its meals with a full bar, colorful cocktails, and live music performances on Friday and Saturday. The massive backyard sports a fireplace area and a full-size volleyball court and dueling horseshoe pits.
The Farm Bar & Grille
Named a Hidden Jewel by Phantom Gourmet, The Farm Bar & Grille's rustic wood furniture and floors and exposed brick walls inform the eatery's comforting vibe. To craft a menu of comforting southern-style fare, the kitchen team doesn't skimp by pulling ingredients from the freezer. Instead, they put together entrees from all-fresh components, including some of the vegetables they grow themselves in the on-site garden and the 90-acre cornfield they fit in their endless broom closet. As baby-back ribs bask in the smoke from a hardwood fire, the kitchen crew bastes them every half hour, in between searing burgers made from fresh angus chuck. Starters such as fresh beer-battered jalapeno poppers are made to order. The staff also pours a large selection of draft beers and specialty cocktails.
