The Fashion Class

With a faculty that includes a graduate of the Parsons The New School for Design, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, and one of the city’s most fashionable people according to Time Out New York, The Fashion Class gives style-minded youngsters the chance to learn sewing and styling skills from industry experts. Head instructor Kerri Quigley founded the school in 2010 as a Brooklyn summer camp and has overseen its growth into a fashion-design school with six different locations, helped out by glowing reviews from press outlets such as New York magazine and NY1. The reviews applaud the school’s after-school and weekend classes on sewing and fashion design, which welcome no more than 10 children grouped according to age rather than ability to pull off DayGlo overalls. Budding fashionistas study topics ranging from the basics of pattern making and draping to sketching and fabric design, honing the skills necessary to complete at-home projects and compete in the fashion industry. At the end of the course, students show off their projects for family and friends during a class fashion show, and they get to take their garments home.
