What You'll Get
A group cooking class helps students gain new culinary skills in a low-pressure environment, as opposed to an individual cooking class, which forces participants to recite monologues about eggplants in front of the entire pot collection. Keep cooking casual with today's Groupon: for $99, you get a two-hour, three-course in-home cooking lesson including meals for four from The Feisty Italian (a $200 value). Classes are valid anywhere in Manhattan. While groceries are not included in this Groupon's value, diners can choose from the following three menus:
- Italian green salad
- Escarole and lentil soup
- Marinara sauce with eggplant, black Moroccan olives, and mushrooms
Kiss Me Italian
- Black olive, artichoke hearts, beet and spinach salad
- Broccoli rabe
- Spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce with pork or turkey sausage
- Italian green salad
- Linguine aglio olio with peperoncino
- Chicken cacciatore
Taught by Italian American Sandra Catena, The Feisty Italian's cooking classes pass on grandmother-learned, Old-World culinary skills to students in the comfort of their own kitchens. Students first pick a menu, choosing from the vegan Skinny Italian or the meat-accented Kiss Me Italian and Exotic Italian before receiving a grocery list to aid in the pickup of necessary meat, produce, and training-montage background music. Once in the kitchen, students learn the secrets to crafting hearty, vegetable-centered Southern Italian cuisine, cooking up dishes that are chock-full of nourishing vitamins and bursting at the seams with taste-bud-seducing flavor. Classes encourage a convivial, high-energy atmosphere, eschewing the stress of a regular culinary classroom for stories, conversation, and impromptu rounds of the hokey pokey.
