What You'll Get
Boot camps are an excellent way to get in shape, gain muscle mass, and help new boots to make other friends that aren't your slippers. Break in some shoes while breaking a sweat with today's Groupon: for $29, you get five boot-camp classes at The Fitness Loft in Manhasset (a $206.25 value).
Owned by Cynthia Conde, gym founder and lead trainer on VH1's Bridal Bootcamp, The Fitness Loft boasts boot-camp courses that help patrons to shed pounds the military way with intense, high-energy group workouts modeled off of U.S. Marine Corps training. Nominated by Long Island Press for best local bootcamp of 2011, the workouts center around an indoor shark-pit-free obstacle course, with campers gaining strength and agility as they scale a tire wall, tame climbing ropes, and recite the ABCs backward in Old English. In addition to incorporating calisthenics such as push-ups and sit-ups, each one-hour session melts calories and builds cardiovascular endurance by raising heart rates to an optimal level. Working out with others also motivates participants to push themselves harder, stick to a regimen, and bond with new friends over tales of general sweatiness and mutual plans to beat up the ocean. Check the online schedule for course offerings.
