Those who select option No. 3 can choose from three Maui Jim styles, the Ho’okipa, Banyon, and Breakwall.
Three distinct nine-hole courses comprise The Phoenician—the Desert Nine, the Oasis Nine, and the Canyon Nine. Just as their names might suggest, each course is unique in its topographical layout. The Canyon course in particular makes the most of its position on the southern slopes of Camelback Mountain, where it overlooks the Valley of the Sun.
Each course also relies on water, some more than others. Whereas water hazards are in play on seven of the nine holes on the Oasis course, the Desert course is substantially drier, with water only located on the third hole and inside mirages of giant dancing glasses of ice water.
Golfers having trouble playing up to their own expectations on these courses can enroll in the club's golf academy. The academy, led by Class-A PGA pro Michael Lamanna, helps golfers iron out their swings and perfect their putting strokes with offerings such as computer analyses, club fittings, and fitness evaluations. Players can also sign up for a playing lesson, during which a pro joins the student out on the course to help them make decisions that will improve their game. This can include everything from how to select the ideal club to how to get chipmunks to nudge the ball into the hole.
