The Guppy House
Consider the guppy: this tiny species has become one of the world's most widely distributed tropical fish, thanks in part to its bright appearance and ornamental fins. Similarly, The Guppy House started small as a single restaurant but has since expanded throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, thanks in part to its colorful and wide-ranging menu. Check out its best features:
Pan-Asian eats: If visitors come in for a snack, chances are they're getting the addictive, garlicky popcorn chicken. For a full meal, they can jump from country to country, sampling fried rice served in a halved pineapple, kimchi udon with pork, and spicy Sichuan mapo tofu.
Drinks: There's something for everyone. Milk tea with boba. Refreshing passionfruit green tea. Fresh fruit smoothies and juices, from orange cantaloupe to strawberry banana. Sodas and coffee.
Desserts: The big draw is Asian-style shaved ice sweetened with condensed milk and fresh fruit slices, red bean, or taro. The Guppy House also serves Taiwanese brick toast: extra-thick slices of housemade bread slow-baked in an oven and then covered with such toppings as chocolate, peanut butter, or fruit.
