At the Heritage Society’s 52nd annual Candlelight Tour, Houston’s past comes alive with re-enactors, the Houston Boychoir, strolling carolers, hand bells, and bagpipes that fill the park with music on Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14, from 5 p.m to 9 p.m. Visitors can share their wishes with Santa Claus and learn about the Nichols family, the first owners of the Nichols-Rice-Cherry House, or see the Yates family prepare for Christmas. An art market in Connally Plaza will sell arts; artwork can also be viewed in the Pillot House’s Paper in Pieces, Larger Than Life: The Art of Avril Falgout exhibit featuring her papier-mâché sculptures. The Heritage Society
The Heritage Society was created in 1954 as part of an effort to rescue the 19th-century Kellum-Noble House from destruction. Since its founding, the organization has taken over the operation of ten historic buildings and a museum gallery, all of which have become part of a 10-acre museum complex in Sam Houston Park. The Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that collects, preserves, exhibits, and celebrates the diverse history of the Houston region.
