About The Highlands Wilderness Training Institute
If you're in the middle of an emergency scenario at The Highlands Wilderness Training Institute, you can rest assured that your instructor has already experienced it. All of the survival school's teachers are professional Emergency Services Personnel, meaning they possess not only practical knowledge and quick-thinking skills, but also the state-of-the-art equipment to pass them along. Using Moulage-based training models, they immerse students in realistic, simulated survival and wilderness First aid situations that cover how to assess a situation and improvise a solution. These scenarios may fall under wilderness Survival training courses, which introduce skills such as how to successfully light a fire regardless of the weather, how to purify drinking water and build a shelter to protect you from hypothermia and the elements . Additionally, they provide training in Wilderness first aid as well as water and ice rescue. Though many courses prepare the amateur outdoors enthusiast, HWTI also provides specialized training for outdoor professionals ranging from geologists to aviators. Each program matches the standards of at least one professional organization, such as The Wilderness Medical Society and the American Academy of Emergency Physicians.
