What You'll Get
Bistros are remarkable in that they somehow manage to be both fancy and casual at the same time, much like a necktie with Taz on it. Feel gussied up without too much fuss with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of steaks, chops, seafood, and drinks at The HobNob in Racine.
The HobNob serves a menu of steaks, seafood, and other bistro fare in a colorful supper club overlooking Lake Michigan. Diners can whet their palates with crab-stuffed mushrooms au gratin ($7.95), a fresh fillet of salmon brushed with a grainy mustard glaze and broiled on a hickory plank ($21.95), rib-eye steak topped with gorgonzola sauce and crispy onion rings ($26.95), or house specialty roasted duckling in orange sauce ($23.95). If you'd like to keep your meal as light as a globetrotting eccentric's hot air balloon, try the wasabi-encrusted tuna served with sushi rice in pickled-ginger vinaigrette ($24.95).
Established in 1954, The HobNob's vintage elegance shines through in a colorfully embellished dining room with plush red chairs surrounding tables cloaked in white cloths. The cocktail lounge's extensive drink menu boasts a capacious wine list, as well as fine ports, sherries, cognacs, cordials, and liquors. A signature blended or stacked ice-cream drink, such as a grasshopper or chocolate hazelnut ($9.95), invites guests to enjoy a leisurely sip or brain freeze to the tune of live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
