The kitchen is statistically the most dangerous room in a home because it contains the highest concentration of knives, open flames, and pots full of semi-living lobsters. Learn to cook in safety with today's Groupon: for $69, you get a Cajun cooking demonstration and full meal from The House Chef of Colorado Springs in the Sushi Ring Restaurant, on South Nevada Boulevard (a $139 value). As The House Chef of Colorado Springs, Louisiana-born chef Robert Brunet hosts weekly demonstrations to educate Coloradans about his native cuisine. During each two-hour session, up to 20 students can soak up Brunet's culinary know-how like cornbread soaks up jambalaya juice. As the main-course chicken-and-sausage gumbo simmers, Brunet will regale them with stories of his Louisianan youth, pausing only to drizzle decadent caramel rum sauce over a white chocolate chip croissant roll bread pudding soaked in creamy custard. Guests can also nibble appetizer mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat and rich cream cheese. Finally, guests will be served the meal they've just watched Brunet create, returning home with full stomachs and a pocketful of recipes for their next home-cooked Cajun meal. Demonstrations take place on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call ahead for reservations.
