Xmas Drop ‘N Shop classes run from December 19 through December 23.
The Hungry Oven’s staff of chefs and bakers lead children and adults in basic and seasonally-themed cooking classes for all levels, teaching recipes and an array of kitchen skills. During three-hour Xmas Drop ‘N Shop classes, young ones learn wintry baking skills while parents depart to enjoy free holiday shopping time. At the start of class, baking instructors brief students on kitchen safety and baking techniques, before presenting kids with four cookie recipes. Students infuse cappuccino crinkles with doses of decaf coffee, shape Christmas tree sugar cookies, sculpt gingerbread boys and girls, and fashion sparkling sugar-cookie snowmen. The Hungry Oven staff supplies all ingredients and baking materials, allowing students freedom to experiment and take home their baked bounties for afterschool snacking or bribing Santa to let them drive the sleigh.
Buyers of the second option can try out single-session workshops divided into Quick Fix 4 Kids, Quick Fix 4 Adults, Parent-and-Me classes (all $90), and Date Night classes ($180), or let progeny explore culinary freedom with five-week children’s courses ($275). Classes follow self-contained curricula, which focus on topics such as seasonal recipes, cooking techniques, and fending off burglars with a spatula. Guided by a chef, adult participants witness a demonstration of the day’s recipes and craft a full sit-down meal by the end of class. Sessions gather in three large kitchens; one designed for children and two for commercial adult use. The Hungry Oven’s facilities and classes are nut-free, but some food items may contain traces of nuts.
