Amos Lee takes the Paramount's historic stage for an evening of the soulful meditations and jazzy folk that have made him one of the most prominent singer-songwriters in the country. His heartfelt tenor wraps around listeners with the familiar comfort of a well-worn sweater or favorite straightjacket before effortlessly slipping into a silvery falsetto on such songs as "Colors," which helped boost Lee to the national stage when it was featured on House. His 2011 album Mission Bell showcased more ambitious orchestrations than his previous efforts, most notably the rollicking organ and gospel-esque chorus of the anthemic "Flower." "Violin"—a collaboration with Iron & Wine's Sam Beam—was praised by the A.V. Club for the way that it "stretches his earthy vocals over drifting pedal-steel, an aching acoustic thump, and Beam's echoed chanting." Chris Kasper backs his own ethereal voice with shimmering electronica and sparse guitar picking during an opening set.

Paramount Center for the Arts

Built by a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures in 1930, the Paramount Center played its original role of luxury movie theater for more than 40 years. After a community-funded campaign, an independent, nonprofit organization repurposed the theater so it could enrich the neighborhood with cultural and educational live performances.
