Inspired by the döner kebab shops and stands prevalent throughout Europe, the owners of The Kebab Shop decided Southern California needed its own version. Their shop treats locals to the Turkish street food, plus saffron rice, crispy falafel, and more than 10 Mediterranean-style salads.

The namesake dish showcases spit-roasted lamb or chicken, seafood, or falafel wrapped in a toasted flatbread, dressed with anything from garlic yogurt sauce to fries. Its customizable creations have earned praise from the readers of San Diego Magazine and its food critics, both of whom named The Kebab Shop the Best Middle Eastern restaurant in 2014.
