About The Killman Zoo
Murray Killman always loved animals, especially big cats. Acutely aware of their endangered status, he created Killman's Wildlife Sanctuary in the 1970s. Amid acres of sprawling forest, lions and tigers roamed free and drank from the cool ponds, adjusting to the new clime by growing fluffy coats and padding around on paw-size snowshoes during the sharp northern winters.
Killman opened up the sanctuary to the public in 1988, determined to inspire a similar love for these majestic creatures in visitors young and old. The zoo has since acquired more than 20 endangered species along with the big cats, including monkeys and a bear. When visitors arrive, they can pet some of the more docile creatures at select points along the shady, winding trails, and even proffer snacks of peanuts for some up-close interaction with the resident wildlife.
