Hailing from Arkansas hill country, comedian Paul Harris tickles ribs with lighthearted standup that pokes fun at the rural foibles of his home. With a knack for impersonation, he recreates colorful characters from his life in sidesplitting stories and anecdotes. After loosening up audiences, he slips into his alternate persona, Digger Cleverly, eldest brother of the Cleverly clan and leader of the deceptively named five-piece Cleverly Trio. Lauded by the Nashville Scene as possessing “a truthfulness that’s both appreciative and open-eyed,” the band simultaneously satirizes and pays tribute to classic bluegrass tropes. Deadpan stage banter fills in the clan’s backstory while the music ambles from self-written parodies to expertly executed bluegrass covers of such songs as Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.”
Before the show, patrons can dig into a three-course country-style dinner (not included with this Groupon), kicking off with a tossed-greens salad before transitioning into a helping of fried chicken. Mashed potatoes, peppered cream gravy, green beans, and a buttered roll supply complementary flavors before caramel apple pie leaves sweet teeth as satisfied as a kid in a time-machine store. A vegetarian option subs in a grilled portobello mushroom for the meat to ensure herbivores don’t go hungry.
