Whether you’re a lifelong casual connoisseur or a truly uninitiated newbie in a wilderness of grapevines, today’s Groupon for a wine class at The Local Vine gives you the edge you need to confidently stride into your next dinner party or formal affair.
Voted Best Wine Bar by Citysearch in both 2008 and 2009, The Local Vine has more than 100 wines available by the glass, as well as succulent small plates and appetizers for you to share with a fellow burgeoning oenophile. This Groupon affords you five wine-tasting classes at The Local Vine for just $145. Choose from the following: schedule:
- Wine 101 (the no pressure basics class for beginners)
- Syrah vs Shiraz
- Let’s get Sideways - Pinot from around the World
- Wines of Italy
- Entertaining 101
- Wine & Cheese Pairing Class
A wine-tasting class is a quintessential activity for sophisticated adults, either as a novel date idea for couples or an icebreaking activity for awkward acquaintances attempting a friend date. Fun, educational, and contingent upon the consumption of alcohol, you’ll have more than a great night out—you’ll leave with a set of skills you can use to deftly maneuver through your next perilous barrage of small talk (“No, I don’t know the groom very well, but did you know this white wine is actually made from red grapes?”) and an understanding of the taste nuances of at least six different wines (take home the “cheat sheet” from class).
The Local Vine is situated in bustling Belltown. Grab this Groupon to dominate your next dinner party, or just kick back after work with a crossword puzzle and a thoughtfully selected blush.
Note: Once you’ve scheduled your class, 24-hour notice for cancellations is required or you surrender your Groupon. And your battleship.
In addition to spending the past two years atop Citysearch’s Best Seattle Wine Bars list, The Local Vine was also recognized nationally as one of The Hot 10 Wine Bars in the country by Bon Appétit magazine.
Yelpers haven’t been quiet either, giving The Local Vine 3.5 stars. Most three-star reviews come from folks who found it a little too busy, but to us, that’s another mark of quality.
> * This place is probably my favorite wine bar in Seattle. Why? Simply put, they have a HUGE selection of by-the-glass wines that rotate with a lot of the selection in the $7 a glass range and below. – Kate G.
> * This place is a blast…The wine list is fun and caters to those who are not experienced winos…great wines that you would normally never be able to try by the glass available in this manner. – Garret A. > * It’s like I’ve spend my adult life like Goldilocks trying wine bar, after wine bar, trying to find the one that pleases me…Everything I tried was “just right”… – Denise E.
Matters of Taste
Attending a wine tasting is entirely different from drinking wine in your own home. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to help you avoid embarrassing faux pas for first-timers:
- Do spit your mouthful of wine into the provided receptacle. Don’t retrieve gum with hand.
- Do provide examples of aftertaste. Don’t provide examples of afterbirth.
- Do thank your hosts and tip wait staff generously. Don’t grind cotton candy into carpet.
