About Halo Cryotherapy
Minnesota is notorious for its frigid temps, but Halo Cryotherapy takes cold to a whole new level. Here, cryotherapy sessions use extreme cold to shred calories and help the body heal. Cryotherapy isn't a new discovery—in fact, it's been used for decades in Europe and Japan to help people lose weight and alleviate pain. Here are a few things to know before you step inside the chamber:
How it works: Inside the cryotherapy chamber, liquid-nitrogen vapor dramatically drops the temperature of your skin. Your body springs into action and begins circulating blood to all its vital organs; as the blood circulates, it's enriched with oxygen, enzymes, and nutrients that rejuvenate your body at the cellular level.
What to expect: Despite being -265 degrees Fahrenheit, the chamber is not cold like, say, an ice bath. That's because it lacks moisture, making it easy to tolerate. Plus, you'll have full range of motion as soon as you step out, unlike an ice bath, which leaves your joints as stiff as Tin Man's before he started doing yoga.
What you need to do: Not much at all. Don't exercise or shower prior to treatment, and don't apply lotions, oils, or cologne—any type of body condensation freezes when exposed to the cold. You don't have to wear anything special, either, since you step into the chamber wearing just undergarments, booties, and gloves.
