Though laser tag began as a military training program, it was recast as a recreational game after the Department of Defense confirmed that Terminator was just a movie. Live the sci-fi sporting life with today's Groupon: for $10, you get four games of laser tag at The Lost City in Holland (up to a $24 value). The package can be split between multiple players.
Beams of red light crisscross through the foggy air of The Lost City's laser-tag arena, a 5,000-square-foot maze that acts as the backdrop for clashes of futuristic furor. Up to 35 players glow beneath black lights as they fan out into the battlefield, taking positions on higher ground and communicating to teammates with secret hand gestures and shadow-puppet re-creations of the Battle of the Bulge. Each game takes about 20 minutes, with 10 minutes to suit up and hear the rules, and the other 10 to rain wave-particle justice on opponents.
Players can watch the tide of battle turn on the overhead scoreboard, and each player takes home a scorecard at the end of the game that compiles data about individual performances and can be included in applications to the Alpha Centauri Police Academy. Once operations have ceased, veterans can keep the competitive spirit aflame with games of mini golf and mini bowling (not included in this Groupon).
Though The Lost City offers discounted game packages and special offers on certain nights, today's Groupon represents the best possible value.
The Lost City
An indoor family-entertainment center, The Lost City invites fun seekers young and old to enjoy a wide range of gaming venues, including a sprawling laser-tag arena, an indoor mini-golf course, an arcade, and a Highway 66 mini-bowling alley. Lasers fly through fog and atmospheric lighting within a multilevel laser-tag arena that spans 5,000 square feet. Participants wear vests and wield phasers as they rack up scores that are then recorded on their individual scorecards. The Lost City’s nine-hole mini-golf course has a Gobi Desert theme, complete with palm trees, pyramids, and camels. To continue a competitive night with friends, head to the 10-pin bowling lanes, which switch between classic woodgrain and a black-lit road theme, or guests can challenge their hand-eye coordination at an arcade with air hockey and redemption games.
