What You'll Get
The primary difference between arts and crafts is that art often makes a terrible investment and disappointing sandwich tray. Match form to function with today's Groupon: for $25, you get to choose one crafts session at the Magic Paintbrush in Alameda (a $50 value). You can redeem your Groupon for sessions in pottery painting, glass fusing, and mosaic, or for a two-hour class in painting or glass fusing techniques.
The Magic Paintbrush provides artistic recreation for people of all ages and skill levels. Pottery painters have a selection of plates, mugs, vases, and Disney bisque to decorate as well as access to stencils and other tools. Alternately, mosaic is great for crack-ups and scatterbrains, who are supplied with an array of frames, clocks, mirrors, and trivets on which to glue a menagerie of materials. Glass fusing is a more specialized process in which glued and layered glass shapes are ultimately flattened or fused in two kiln treatments, removing any evidence of broken vases.
Groupon customers can also elect a painting techniques class in which they will learn seasonal designs, strategies, and happy thoughts for different paints and brush types. A glass fusing class instructs in the creation of a variety of jewelry and glassware.
