Before Phantom or Evita or Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar first got the world humming the music of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice. More than 40 years later, the world hasn’t stopped, as the McLean Community Players stage a fresh production of the hugely popular rock opera. An unprecedented commercial and artistic success when it debuted on Broadway in 1971, Jesus Christ Superstar retells the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. Chart-topping songs such as “Everything’s Alright,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and the high-octane title number dramatically highlight the struggles of Jesus’s final days before his violent crucifixion and ultimate redemption. Now Kevin and Pamela McCormack direct an exciting production bursting with stunning visuals and smashing performances at the Alden Theatre.
