The 2011 British Beer Festival gathers brew enthusiasts at The MUZEO for samplings of authentic British bitters, ales, stouts, and cuisine supplied by The Olde Ship, a British-style pub in Santa Ana. Loosen tongues with sips of Boddingtons, Fuller’s, and Beamish (one ticket/sample), and soak up suds or quash sonnets before they’re spoken with bangers and mash, fish ‘n’ chips, and traditional pasties (two tickets/sample). While live music massages the air, guests tour The Queen’s Gallery exhibit’s 60-plus paintings by Victorian-era artists, including Royal Academy of Arts members and James Sant, Queen Victoria’s portrait painter and most formidable Scrabble opponent. At Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination, onlookers peruse artifacts from Victorian writers and later scientists, from H.G. Wells and Jules Verne to Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein. In addition to film props, set pieces, and rare books, the exhibit showcases art, clothing, and steampunk sculptures from modern artists.
Revelers may purchase extra tasting tickets for an additional price, filling up with extra bites or splashing around brews to reveal which other attendees are actually delicate paintings in disguise. Net event proceeds go to benefit The MUZEO’s Eniro program, which introduces at-risk public-school students to fine art.
MUZEO Museum and Cultural Center
Every year, MUZEO Museum and Cultural Center's curators bring an eclectic collection of traveling exhibits to Orange County that otherwise might not stop in the region. The unifying theme behind exhibits tends to be a combination of interest and eccentricity; in recent years, the museum temporarily housed displays on calligraphy, black-leather jackets, and masterpieces by Goya, Picasso, and Dalí. Every show enjoys the advantages of the museum's architectural beauty, which combines a series of outdoor courtyards and waterscapes with its galleries. The building also houses the Anaheim Heritage Center, which contains almost one million curiosities and items pertaining to the city, from its early Native American roots to Disneyland.
