About The New York Public Library
As the fourth largest public library in the world, The New York Public Library is an institution that's much more than a place to borrow the next book on your reading list. (Of course, with more than 90 locations and tens of millions of items in circulation, you can do that, too.) Since its founding in 1895, the library system has diversified, expanding its reach into research, cultural programming, and curated collections with such holdings as a Gutenberg Bible and George Washington's original Farewell Address. Here are some of the services it provides the community:

- Classes: Literacy and English classes serve New York City's diverse population. Kids and adults learn new skills and hobbies—from Microsoft Excel to knitting—during workshops across the system.
