The Orchard Executive Chef John LaFemina’s 2006 autobiography A Man and His Meatballs: The Hilarious but True Story of a Self-Taught Chef and Restaurateur describes his improbable, unlikely, and utterly shocking midlife transformation from jeweler to chef. I mean, no one saw it coming. Totally out of the blue.

With today’s Groupon, $20 gets you $50 worth of food and drinks at The Orchard, a fantastic spot for a trendy evening with friends located at 162 Orchard St. on the Lower East Side. The Orchard, Executive Chef John LaFemina’s third restaurant, is a notable departure from his previous Italian-focused offerings. The menu features more experimental fare that includes an impressive list of unconventional flatbreads. Both the savory braised short rib and the flavorful steak tartare flatbreads are interesting takes on a typically straightforward dish. For entrees, the mouthwatering crispy lobster empanadas and the drool-inducing sliced Hudson Valley duck breast with an apple-raisin risotto and port wine-pomegranate glaze are top-notch tastes. And with stylish lighting and swanky decor, you’ve got a great restaurant that’s equal parts trendy and delicious.

- “Overall, this place is great. The ambiance is perfect for a date - they did a good job combining ‘real nice’ with ‘lower east side cool’. The food is spectacular.” - Tushar T., Yelp
- “I have dined at The Orchard 5 times and every experience has been wonderful. I have taken my friends and family who have visited from out of town to The Orchard and they love it as well.” - Frequent Diner, MenuPages
