What You'll Get

Some Porter Beer fare is just a bit more upscale than normal pub grub (like the Porter’s half pound cheeseburger) and some of it is decidedly more fancy (like the shrimp BLT—chilled lemon-marinated shrimp, shaved fennel, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and preserved lemon aioli). Whatever you decide, pair it with any of Porter’s more than 200 beers—consult the menu’s complete suggested beer pairings to make the tastiest decision. We’d also recommend the weekend Hair of the Dog brunch (choose from dishes such as biscuits and sausage gravy, smoked-salmon scramble, and cinnamon French toast).
The Porter Beer Bar features handcrafted wood booths and exposed brick walls that give it a rustic and comfortable feel. This isn’t the kind of place you go to watch the game—there isn’t a TV in sight. You’ll have to actually talk to the people you’re with. But there are some antique luggage sets on display (a play on the porter part of its name), so you could probably stare at those.
People dig The Porter Beer Bar—and they didn’t even have Groupons. Yelpers give it four stars and Metromix gives it 4.7. Here’s what’s being said: > * I’ve been twice and have enjoyed everything on the menu my wife, friends, and I have ordered. The burger, fries, popcorn, pretzels, hush puppies, fish n’ chips, and reuben sandwich are all VERY tasty. – Kevin F., Yelp > * Considering the enormous number of beer options at The Porter, HOW can you go wrong? Love the location, the feel, the people, helpful staff. Had a few apps - were delish. Wouldn’t mind being a regular here. – Jessica L., Yelp > * The Porter serves food that goes well with beer. But not just any bar food. This menu has been carefully designed with beer in mind. In addition to the suggested pairings, beer is also a main ingredient in some of the items including the Sweetwater 420 mussels and the Rogue ice cream served with a brownie. – Metromix review
Beer Pairings for Social Situations by Guest Writer and Atlanta Braves Fan Mark Walters
The Porter Beer Bar does its patrons the admirable service of recommending beer pairings with its menu items. For its esteemed salt & vinegar popcorn, it recommends Dale’s Pale Ale; for the ½ pound cheeseburger, the Victory Hop Devil IPA 4. However the menu does not offer beer pairings for specific social situations. My name is Mark Walters, I am a diehard Braves fan. This is my game-day addendum to the Porter Beer Bar menu:
- Get to the Braves game a little bit late, bottom of the first → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog Victory IPA
- I see Tim and Rick, they’ve made signs: Go Braves! → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog Victory IPA
- Tim’s going to get hot dogs, would I want anything else? → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog Victory IPA
- Fan of visiting team is cheering → Punch the fan
- Evade security → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog Victory IPA
- 7th inning stretch, hiding in nosebleed section, Braves down 3 → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog Victory IPA
- Game over, Braves lose, close to tears → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog
- Walking out of stadium, realize it’s time for another beer → Hotlanta Brewery Mad Dog
