About A Chat with The Powder Magazine

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Museum housed in an arsenal that's over 300 years old. The Powder Magazine is South Carolina's oldest public building and the state's only 18th-century military museum.

What is the experience customers can expect? Learn the state's earliest history in a structure that actually witnessed Colonial Carolina. Guests enjoy both conventional and interactive/multimedia exhibits. Children win a prize when they complete our exhibit scavenger hunt.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business? As South Carolina's first preservation project, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina was inspired to save this important historic treasure in 1902. The Powder Magazine has been a museum since 1903!

What do you love most about your job? Museum staff LOVE to interact with families who visit The Powder Magazine. Making history come alive while working within a 300-year-old structure is an incredible opportunity we enjoy each day.
