I had never been there before my groupon, but I've been there twice since then! I had a great time for both the regular movies as well as the sing-a-long

Great programs, looking forward to your other shows like sing-alongs. Hope to see more of your events on Groupon! I would definitely want to attend more of your shows. Also, on the Feb. 10th showing of Becoming Britney, there were some sound issues that made it difficult for audiences to understand clearly what the actors and actresses were saying. Of course, some of the sound issues were clearly faulty, but for some of the songs that had more background music, the melody line with the lyrics usually got lost within the background music and became difficult for audiences to hear and understand.

What You'll Get

Movie film, like wine or the venom of South American rattlesnakes, keeps getting better with age. For $5, today's Groupon gets you a ticket to any movie at The Retro Dome, a $10 value. In September 2009, The Dome opened its recently rehabbed doors so people could soak in its recently rehabbed insides and view retro films on the big screen.

Every weekend a newly selected movie of the past is splayed across the silver screen, with choices ranging from Ghostbusters to The Terminator to An Affair to Remember to The French Terminator's Woman. If you want to find out if any of your childhood favorites from 1939 to 1999 will make the Dome's cut, check out the schedule.

The décor of The Retro Dome is pure early 1960s glitz, with a bold purple and orange color theme just bright enough to distract you from lingering Cold War fears. Retro snacks are available from the concession counter, including Hostess Twinkies, Ho-Hos, and pieces of toast wrapped in old newspapers. The theater itself is outfitted with bulbous retro lights, making you feel like a vintage celebrity surrounded by angry paparazzi.

Anything retro is wildly popular right now because Americans yearn for yesteryear, when gallons of milk cost pennies and pennies were made out of three-pound pieces of 24-karat gold.

Today's Groupon is applicable to movies at The Retro Dome, including special $15 screenings, but not any of the live theatrical entertainment.

Artsopolis loves The Retro Dome’s décor, and a Yelper had a great time watching a classic film there:

  • The Retro Dome…has a totally hip and vibrant style all its own. From the moment you step inside, you'll be overcome with the groovy ambiance of this remodeled cinema. – Artsopolis
  • I saw a matinee of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang today at the Retro Dome. I had a GREAT time. I've seen the movie many times over the years but - as it was released over 40 years ago - never saw it on the big screen….5 stars for the friendly staff members, the introduction/trivia at the beginning of the show, and the lack of 10 minutes of boring trailers. – R W., Yelp

About The Retro Dome

When The Retro Dome first opened its doors three years ago, it was with the knowledge that its life would be brief and yet explosive. From the start, the owners of the building planned to demolish it at some point in the future. Yet that didn’t stop the staff from making use of the former Century 25 Theater’s stadium-style seating, refurbished chairs, and massive dome. They decked out the interior with vintage, retro-modern décor, complete with a candy counter slinging Pop Rocks and JujuBees. The foreseeable, yet fuzzy ending has recently come into sharp focus, though. The Retro Dome will go dark on January 31, 2013, bringing to an end nearly four years of live music and sing-along cinema.
