Like igneous rock, sandglass, and dragon courage, chocolate is one of the many things in life that is better when melted. Today's Groupon gets you a taste of the reconceived classic: for $15, you get a fondue-for-two package, including drinks, take-home chocolates, and fondue with an array of dippables from The Royal Chocolate (a $30 value).
The Royal Chocolate offers gourmet candies and chocolaty fare in a quaint storefront nestled within the Town Center. The fondue-for-two package offers the melted marrow of mankind's favored amuse-gueule in a pot of liquid-hot magma for you to split with your BF, BFF, or congressional representative. Choose your favored flavor among dark, milk, and white chocolates. Along with the pot of chocolate, you'll receive a set of four dippables (bananas, pretzels, marshmallows, no. 2 pencils, graham crackers, apples, etc.) to dunk into the decadent dessert, plus your choice of beverage. Once the pot is complete, The Royal Chocolate's friendly staff will give you and your companion a proud pat on the back, and you'll each receive a three-piece bag of chocolates to take home or to jury duty.
Research suggests that chocolate, unlike country gravy, triggers the body's happy-making chemicals, so an unspoiled pond of the creamy confection might just be the remedy to rid you of those weighty worries about the economy and the possibility of King James leaving Cleveland. So splurge on two servings of the sweet treat, or gift this Groupon to an estranged couple of coworkers for a tasty reconciliation.
Due to limited seating, reservations are required, so call ahead to save a spot.
Though diners at The Royal Chocolate have yet to write many reviews of their experiences, the chocolate store was named Virginia Beach's Retailer of the Year, 2010 by Retail Alliance. It was selected the winner among more than 150 nominees.
The Royal Chocolate
Rarely a day goes by that Terry Restin and Brenda Tusing don't eat chocolate. And who could blame them? Terry and Brenda are the imaginative founders of The Royal Chocolate—a cheerful shop abounding with glimmering glass displays of gourmet chocolate and caramel apples, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a sweeping variety of dark, milk, and white chocolates. The duo imports chocolates from around the world and whips up their own line in-store, folding Belgian chocolate into intricate treats such as chocolate cashew clusters and chocolate caramel toffee squares. They work behind the shop's counter steaming hot chocolates and preparing other beverages. Their guests perch at intimate tabletops by the glowing fire, dipping fresh strawberries, fluffy marshmallows, and crispy apple slices into pots of fondue. The contented smiles on their faces are the reason Terry and Brenda got into the chocolate business in the first place—as Brenda told reporters from Inside Business, "I can't explain how great it is when people come in our door. Even when they have a frown on their face, when they smell the chocolate they smile."
