About Salt Cellar
Unsurprisingly, Salt Cellar owes its name to the location of the first shop in Portsmouth, NH, which occupies the cellar of a nineteenth-century building. Salt Cellar owners—Don and Judit, a husband and wife couple—got inspired to opening such a shop after their trip to Eastern Europe, where they visited many similar places and learned about various uses of salt, including therapeutic and beauty. After their return, they decided to introduce this idea to the U.S. and opened their first shop in Portsmouth.
Salt Cellar is solely focused on salt and offers a staggering array of products, from various types of cooking salt to Himalayan salt lamps to salt-based beauty products. One more unique feature of the Portland shop is the Salt Vault, which is a relaxing facility dedicated to halotherapy. It is a special room decorated with salt tiles and equipped with salt aeration technology, where patrons can relax in "zero-gravity" chairs and inhale healing, salt-filled air. Such sessions are believed to have a beneficial effect on the respiratory tract, especially in individuals suffering from asthma and allergies. It is said that salt particles suspended in the air help thin out the thick mucus and, in consequence, make it easier to raise and remove.
