About The Salty Owl Studio

Art for all- no matter your artistic experience, or lack of, you’re welcome here. Art is power-full, and everyone deserves to be empowered.

Aside from art classes at KVCC and a sprinkling of art lessons as an adult, I am primarily a self-taught artist.

I was never a star student in art (or any subject) while I was a kid. My artistic intuition developed as I got older, wiser, and more at peace with myself and the world. (Notice how I didn’t mention artistic skill or talent….) Creative expression was (and is) the one thing that I can count on in my life. It has taught me to observe the world and everything in it, to not only see the different layers and threads comprising my surroundings, but to find them. The impact creative expression has had on my life has given me the drive to share it with others- art is for everyone. Everyone can benefit from it, regardless of perceived artistic ability.

I have over 10 years of experience facilitating and teaching in educational and non-profit settings. From facilitating sexuality education for high school students and young adults, to directing a before and after-school site for the YMCA, to recruiting volunteers for Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. All of these experiences have supported me in my creative journey!
