The freedom of the water allows sailors liberties that can't be taken on land, such as gambling on knife fights or naming a dog a swear word. Float above the law with this Groupon.
Choose Between Two Options
- $23 for a 90- to 120-minute sail with two drinks Monday–Friday (a $45 value)
- $30 for an 120-minute City Lights night sail Friday and Saturday (a $60 value)
During the 90-minute weekday sails, or 120 minutes for the 6:30 p.m. sunset sails, up to 28 passengers ride aboard The Privateer, a 41-foot ketch-rigged cruiser with room enough for a crew that serves beer and wine. The sail passes landmarks including Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The City Lights night sail gives passengers an evening excursion around the bay, which includes a champagne toast along the Bay Bridge.
Weekday sails launch at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Monday–Friday; City Lights night sails launch at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. All sails depart from Dock C at Pier 39.
The San Francisco Sailing Company
The San Francisco Sailing Company and the San Francisco Sailing School offer charters, sailing tours, and sailing lessons. They provide customers a chance to cruise the Bay as if on their own private yacht, or teach customers how to sail through their American Sailing Association certified facility. On a typical sailing tour, seasoned captains give passengers a memorable experience as they enjoy unique panoramic views of the entire Central San Francisco Bay. Tours pass the water front from Fisherman's Wharf all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge, Aquatic Park, Alcatraz, The Bay Bridge and views of Sausalito, and Angle Island. In sailing lessons, students will learn theory and terminology, as well as spend the majority of the time on the water practicing maneuvers such as tacking and jibing. In two days of lessons, students are half way through Basic Keelboat certification.
