- $198 for a two-day, 12-hour Basic Keelboat Sailing I class ($490 value)
During two-day Basic Keelboat Sailing I classes, novices learn the basics of boat handling through hands-on training. Apart from the 30-minute lecture that begins the course, students spend nearly all their time on water. By the end of the first day, they’ll have learned how to set up a sailboat and steer; by the end of the second, they’ll be considered competent to sail the Bay waters as crew members. This class forms the first half of the American Sailing Association certification process, which is continued in Basic Keelboat II.
This Groupon is valid for classes that take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on two consecutive days: Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, or Saturday and Sunday. Recommended course material is available for an additional $35. For more details, visit the company website.
The San Francisco Sailing Company
The San Francisco Sailing Company and the San Francisco Sailing School offer charters, sailing tours, and sailing lessons. They provide customers a chance to cruise the Bay as if on their own private yacht, or teach customers how to sail through their American Sailing Association certified facility. On a typical sailing tour, seasoned captains give passengers a memorable experience as they enjoy unique panoramic views of the entire Central San Francisco Bay. Tours pass the water front from Fisherman's Wharf all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge, Aquatic Park, Alcatraz, The Bay Bridge and views of Sausalito, and Angle Island. In sailing lessons, students will learn theory and terminology, as well as spend the majority of the time on the water practicing maneuvers such as tacking and jibing. In two days of lessons, students are half way through Basic Keelboat certification.
