What You'll Get
Early vegetarians were faced with the challenge of lassoing an apple off a tree or coaxing a corncob into a bear trap. Hunt a healthy harvest the easy way with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of vegetarian cuisine and drinks at The Spot Natural Food Restaurant in Hermosa Beach.
The Spot Natural Food Restaurant, one of LA County's oldest vegetarian restaurants, specializes in natural fare made with homemade breads, purified water, and organic ingredients when available. Most of the menu is also available fat-free or without dairy. The restaurant's featured attraction is The Spot burger, a veggie patty and meat stunt-double documented on Travel Channel's Hamburger Paradise ($7.95). For breakfast, bleary-eyed biters can rest their serrated ivories on the tofu and brown rice bowl ($6.95) or sink into a pillowy omelette stuffed with The Spot's award-winning chili ($10.95). Healthful hits on the lunch and dinner menu include the super burrito, filled with baked tofu, cheese, and red sauce ($10.95), or the blue plate special, a veggie burger topped with sautéed onions, 'shrooms, and gravy, nestled against a mound of mashed potatoes and veggie of the day ($11.95). A casual atmosphere nurtures conversation, and a glass of organic wine ($6.95) or a bottle of equally organic beer ($4.50) suppresses excessive tongue wagging.
Gayot featured The Spot Natural Food Restaurant and named it among the Top 10 LA Vegetarian Restaurants. The Travel Channel featured The Spot, and Easy Reader News named it Best of the Beach in 2010 for Best Chili and Best Vegetarian. More than 100 Yelpers give The Spot a 3.5-star average, and 78% of Urbanspooners recommend it.
- The real deal. Everything is wholesome, and the prices are reasonable. – Gayot
- Great food and relaxed atmosphere. A place to unwind and indulge in food you can feel good about enjoying. Savory sauce with veggies, tofu & rice or "dear bubba" are really satisfying on so many levels. Cobbler is A+ too. One block from the beach. – Knowitall, Urbanspoon

About The Spot Natural Food Restaurant
Tonya Beaudet was perplexed when a strange sign appeared on the door of her favorite restaurant in 1980. Before long, she deduced that “Here today, gone to Maui” meant that its surf-crazy owner had traded California’s waves for those of Hawaii. Filled with visions of organic feasts, she scrambled to buy the shop, otherwise known as The Spot Natural Food Restaurant. House-made vegetarian fare has ruled the menu for more than 30 years, transforming Tonya into a meat-free eater and converting unabashed carnivores into legume lovers. Sautéed mushrooms and onions crown the restaurant’s veggie burger, whose blend of beans, seeds, and soy cheese the Travel Channel deemed “jam-packed with flavor.” Brown rice and whole-wheat tortillas lend wholesome goodness to hearty burritos, savory garden omelets brim with seasonal produce, and organic ales and purified water refresh palates between bites, preventing diners from plunging into the nearby ocean. To accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, the kitchen can prepare meals without wheat, dairy, or sugar. Tonya and crew’s cookbook helps diners recreate their favorite dishes at home, using healthy ingredients such as garden-grown veggies and raw agave.
