What You'll Get
When someone’s getting all up in your grill, the best thing to say is “You better step off! The surface temperature of grills can approach 550 degrees Fahrenheit—you shouldn’t be standing on that thing!” Today’s Groupon to The Stand demonstrates a high regard for safety by leaving the grilling to the professionals. Choose between the following options:
- For $12, you get $25 worth of diner fare.
- For $23, you get $50 worth of diner fare.<p>
Located on McKinney Avenue in the heart of Uptown, The Stand’s culinary team cooks classic street fare such as hot dogs, burgers, and pizzas and finishes them off with inventive twists. The recently opened restaurant’s menu catalogs delights such as a loaded Frito pie bag ($5), in which an open bag of Fritos cradles chili and cheese. The kitchen team also whips up a hamburger ($6.50) that, like the mailbox of a weatherman who went on air to say it will never rain dairy and vegetables, is stuffed with an interior tandem of pepper jack cheese and green chili. Culinary artists turn a blank, starchy bun canvas into a magnum opus by wrapping Nathan’s hot dogs with bacon to lay the foundation for the Mac Daddy Dog ($5.50), a slice of Americana the cooks fry lightly with mac ‘n’ cheese. A number of drinks, desserts, and nacho-y appetizers round out the cuisine roster, and patrons can order and pick up their grub at chrome trailers actually brought inside the restaurant, convincing evidence that a stock-car event could someday take place inside a sporting-goods store. The Stand’s patio provides a sunny outdoor lunch spot or twilight meetup zone for those seeking nourishment before heading to the McKinney Avenue bars.
