Seeing live music can be a transcendent mind-body experience, akin to getting a tattoo underwater, or making out during an eclipse. Transcend boredom with today's Groupon for one ticket to see blues master James Cotton at the Tower Theatre on October 15 at 8 p.m. Choose one of the following seating options:
- For $19, you get one reserve ticket ($39 value).
- For $14, you get one general-admission ticket (a $29 value).
Wielding his signature harmonica, delta-blues artist James Cotton has become a legend in blues circles, having started in the Muddy Waters Blues Band and since performed with B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Santana, Led Zeppelin, and other renowned artists. Watch the mouth-harp-playing phenomenon soulfully jam to classic blues tunes, such as “Don’t Start Me Talking” and “Sweet Sixteen,” as well as material from his newest record, Giant. Local blues-rockers Deja Blues will open, playing tunes that pay tribute to every style of American blues, from Mississippi Delta to Chicago shuffle to robot blues-rock, which focuses on the loneliness of 0s and 1s.
Opened in 1939, the Tower Theatre is a destination in and of itself, featuring neon-tube lighting, fluorescent murals from Dutch artist Anthony Heinsbergen, ghostly hauntings from three former U.S. presidents, and a restored marquee. When James Cotton, a member of the Blues Hall of Fame, steps foot into the historical venue, two worlds rife with historical importance will combine to form one memorable and soulfully soundtracked night.
