What You'll Get
No two shows are alike for the Portland Cello Project, an ensemble of classically trained cellists with an inescapable love of pop music. With a repertoire now numbering over 1,000 pieces of music both expected and unexpected to come from a cello, the group plays unlikely venues in an effort to bring the instrument into places you wouldn't normally hear it. The Portland Cello Project's stage setup ranges from the intimate (four cellos) to the all out epic (which has included 12 cellos playing with full choirs, winds, horns and numerous percussion players). Recent collaborations for the group include The Dandy Warhols, Thao With the Get Down Stay Down, and Buckethead. For their latest set at Seattle's The Triple Door, this genre-defying ensemble teams up with pianist and composer Rachel Grimes of the influential '90s indie-rock chamber ensemble Rachel's.
