What You'll Get
Extra-virgin olive oil is great by itself, better when drizzled over salad, and best when slicked across Pavarotti’s windpipes. Savor the tastes and smells of olives with today’s Groupon: for $60, you get a private olive-oil tasting for up to 12 people at The True Olive Connection (a $20/person value; up to a $240 value). The tasting includes the following:
- Unlimited tasting of olive oil and vinegar
- Wine and hors d’oeuvres
- 10% off in-store purchases
Imported from the many olive-producing corners of the globe, The True Olive Connection’s treasury of 30 different freshly made first cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oils accentuates the flavor profiles of vinegars, wine, and hors d’oeuvres during private tasting sessions. Culinary experts lead oil-sampling groups of up to 12 through the shop’s many flavors—which include basil, blood orange, and garlic—and offer insights into the oil’s country of origin, method of production, and ability to coat a Greco-Roman wrestler. Mingling with olive flavors, more than 20 varieties of imported white and balsamic vinegar add a piquant punch while wine and hors d’oeuvres further enliven palates already tingling with the tangy pressings of tree fruits. Medium-sized bottles of Chipotle extra-virgin olive oil ($15) smolders with the spicy personality of a tabasco-soaked flamenco dancer, and lavender balsamic vinegar ($15) lingers on lips with a sweet, floral aftertaste. Sampler bottles are also available in packs of six, providing an opportunity to sample a swath of various oils. As tongues slowly process the complex bouquet of flavors, tasters can browse the shop’s inventory of bottles, which are available to Groupon holders at a 10% discount.
