A:

The Tutoring Center uses The Rotational Approach to Learning (RATL) which was developed by Dr. Edward Thalheimer in 1991. This is a method of direct instruction that was originally developed to help students with ADD or ADHD. The RATL like the Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct approach that uses instructional materials in a sequential manner. Our centers provide one-to-one instruction that keeps students engaged and helps to improve a student's concentration, focus and attention span. The content of our Phonics instruction would depend on the age and skill level of the student based on the Diagnostic Assessment using the Kaufmann Test of Educational Achievement. Depending on the grade level of the student, the Diagnostic Assessment takes from 1 to 1-1/2 hours/

Q:

My daughter is a junior in high school and has always done well in school. She is struggling with test taking for two subjects she is very much enjoying, but watches friends that have asked for her help in studying do far and away better on the tests. Would this Groupon allow her to get help with test taking skills as she readies for the ACT and college entrance exams? This young lady is playing with the thought of pre-med and is scared to death of the testing surrounding going into medicine--to the point she may not go that direction simply due to the test-taking... A:

Hi Jerri, Many times a student exhibits "test anxiety" due to a lack of confidence or fear of the unknown. Please call our center so we can talk about your daughter's specific needs.

Q:

I'm considering signing up my 6 yr old twins for this deal, but I'm not sure what times are available. How do I find out what times are available before making a commitment to purchase?

Shawn T.  asked on  Jan 20, 2013

A:

Hi Shawn, We offer sessions at 3:30, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 on Mondays through Thursday. Actual availability of specific tutoring times is determined when a parent comes for their Test Consultation following the student's Diagnostic Assessment. At this time we have openings in almost all of our session times.
