What You'll Get

The University of Chicago's world-class music series, Contempo, sets its sights on compositions from across the pond in Focus on Europe, including an original piece written and performed by the charismatic Polish singer-composer Agata Zubel. Set to text by playwright Samuel Beckett, Zubel's Not I pairs her stunning vocals with a combination of chamber ensemble and electronic music. Zubel's countryman, the great Polish bassist Tadeusz Wielecki, will also be in attendance, performing an original composition of his own called The Thread is Spinning. Plus, Contempo's ensembles-in-residence eighth blackbird and Pacifica Quartet perform additional works by European composers, including Madrigal by France's Christophe Bertrand, Mosaics by Polish composer Marta Ptaszynska and String Quartet No. 2 by Russia's Alfred Schnittke.
