The video work was just fine from what I can tell so far. However, I can't say I would do it again. It took 7 months to get my items back. The worst part was there is NO customer service... yes, there was a number to call and I did. Never got a call back or a text message or any communication. I finally had to contact the post office to see if they actually got my package. The post office couldn't find that it was delivered. I thought for sure I wasn't getting my stuff back. Ended up contacting Groupon. But yeah, 7 months. I wouldn't do it again but maybe someone others had better luck. In the end I got my videos and DVD's so I had to give them credit for that.

I originally gave a terrible review because I had sent the tapes on January 4 and had not received them until the middle of June. When I got to watch the tapes I was so pleased I have to change my review. The video editor did a great job that I fell was well worth the final result.

Merchant response: please make sure when you send in tapes to either send a check or credit card for return shipping. Failure to do so does result in delays as we have to play phone or email tag!

Digital Video Transfer: Preserving Memories for Good

Relics of the bygone era of the original camcorder, VHS videos may not be the ideal vessel for cherished family memories. Find out how to keep old footage fresh with Groupon’s rundown of digital video transfer.

Any footage preserved on a VHS tape should be considered an endangered memory. Comprised of magnetic tape that can degrade over time—and imperiled by any malfunctioning VCR—the once-popular videos were not built to last. Converting analog tapes into digital files ensures that your home movies can be enjoyed for years without losing quality or taking up shelf space otherwise reserved for Oscar statuettes. To accomplish this, most VHS-to-DVD transfer services use an analog-to-digital adapter, which translates the tape’s video signal into pixels to store on a computer’s hard drive. From there, the files can be edited and preserved for posterity either by burning them to DVDs or uploading the videos to Internet sites such as YouTube.

Bonus Points

  • VHS, which stands for video home service, was almost obsolete before it even took off. Many considered an early competitor, Betamax, a superior form of videocassette.
  • A single DVD can typically fit about two hours of video—just enough time to see a child grow from a newborn into a full-fledged justborn.
