What You'll Get

In the Victorian era, poorhouses were a cruel reply to the misery of poverty, and the setting for many Dickens’ musicals. Fortunately, you don’t have to incur ruinous debt to get into the Village Pourhouse. With today’s Groupon, $15 gets you a two-hour-long beer-tasting class, featuring beers from selected breweries (a $25 value). Beer-tasting classes are scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. Because classes are limited to 50 people, Village Pourhouse will add more classes to meet demand if the current schedule fills up. Featured breweries rotate each month:

  • January—Sam Adams
  • February—Arcadia
  • March—Chelsea Brewery
  • April—Peak Organic
  • May—Abita
  • June—Ithaca Brewing Company
  • Julembruary—Bubblebrook Brewery and Staircase Removal (not available in Julembruary)

If it’s too hard to choose, you can buy multiple Groupons and go to every tasting event. At each tasting, your expert beer sommelier will guide you through six flavorful brews, pointing out the bouquet, hoppiness, flavor notes, dissimilarity to clam chowder, and more. After learning about the ingredients and brewing process, you’ll be able to impress strangers at campsites, truck stops, and renaissance faires with loads of beer knowledge.

As winter closes in on the city, there’s no better way to keep warm than with a refined beer palate and brew in your belly. And remember, enjoy beer tastings responsibly by not utilizing heavy machinery such as F-14s or BattleBots.

Reviews

Citysearchers pour out 4.5 stars for Village Pourhouse, and Yelpers give it three stars: > * The “beer sommelier”…was very knowledgeable and made the entire event extremely enjoyable. All the beers we sampled were great, which included a lot of different mixes we hadn’t seen done before. – T.M., Yelp > * Everything about this place is perfect. The atmosphere of this bar is sleek and fun with so many different rooms. The service is so fast and the staff is the friendliest in the city…I went to the beer tasting last week and it was so much fun and met so many different people! I love the Pourhouse! – mollyb6443, Citysearch > * I truly loved the everything about it, from the food and beer selection, the accommodating workers, all the cool plasmas that dont seem to be overkill, to the ambiance and look of the place. – goldmanreject, Citysearch

Beers of Tomorrow

It is well known that beer, or "liquid bread," has been around for centuries. It was only recently, however, that Groupon precognates were able to determine via cresting time-waves that beer will continue to be around for centuries to come. Here are a few of the high-tech brews we can expect to be quenching thirsts in the distant future.

  • Neo-Belgium Fat Hovercraft
  • Johnny Quantum's HyperHops
  • 01101011010 Lite
  • Cyborg's Choice Chrome Stout
  • Mega-Intelligent Yeast Overlords’ Humanjuice Revenge Ale
