A well-honed voice can be used as a weapon to sweet-talk one's way into a coveted job or subvert a power-drunk librarian. Sharpen your speaking sword with today's Groupon: for $149, you get a private, two-hour full-body voice workout at The Vocal Gym for Public Speaking (a $400 value). Students must bring their own voice recorders to class.
Inside the vibrant and welcoming studio, public speaking coaches use extensive training to help both native English and ESL speakers alike build strong, confident voices. The private, two-hour class introduces students to the Full Body 4-Step Workout 10-Pack Intensive Program for the speaking voice, which offers four services in one program, entails training speech delivery and strengthening breathing muscles, which is also beneficial for performing sprints in scuba gear. Sessions address specific, common situations, such as expressing oneself to colleagues and public speaking. Students should arrive ready for physical activity with gym clothes (including fitted tops) and sneakers, and as well as a voice recorder to monitor improvement and detect any invisible ghosts of Tom Brokaw. Private classes take place from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday–Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Vocal Gym for Public Speaking

A musician, actress, yogi, and all-around renaissance woman, Ms. Satie uses her diverse expertise—which includes training at the University of Cambridge—to build rigorous workouts for the voice. During private sessions, she takes speakers through a four-step process that teaches proper breathing technique, incorporates core fitness exercises, and fine-tunes articulation. Ms. Satie's custom programs help her clients gain confidence and correct their specific issues by training their vocal cords to keep a steady pitch, slow down, or roll over.
