The Warrior Institute of Chicago takes a broad view of martial arts, encouraging the study of combat used in such Asian countries as China, Korea and Japan. In terms of actual moves, teachers focus on punches, kicks, takedowns, and some traditional weapon-fighting forms. They combine these with lessons in self-discipline and fun fitness training for both kids and adults. They also spend a lot of time encouraging students, watching and cheering as students perform throws on the mats or navigate an obstacle course.
