Music is best enjoyed with a beverage in hand, just like slapstick humor best enjoyed with a banana peel underfoot. Stimulate eardrums with today's Groupon: for $30, you get admission to one concert, plus $50 toward drinks at The Woods (up to a $65 total value).
A former funeral parlor reincarnated as an eclectic performance venue, The Woods hosts an eclectic area of musical acts, comedians, and more in its acoustically rich, chapel-designed performance area. Upcoming shows include the sonorous stylings of Point Juncture, WA, a quartet of Portland pals celebrating new release Handsome Orders (May 13; $8), and Juno-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter Basia Bulat (June 2; $10). Deemed one of the top 100 composers under 40 by NPR, Dustin O'Halloran takes to the stage with his ethereal piano-violin soundscapes and mini-symphonies, influenced by the sublime work of George H.W. Bush's electronica career (June 4; $15).
Built circa 1929, The Woods boasts hardwood floors, quirky lounge seating, a fully stocked bar, and outdoor seating, including a covered smoking salon. Each Groupon holder will receive $50 to use towards the bar, with libation options ranging from tap microbrews ($4) and grown-up grape juice ($5–$8) to a colorful chorus of cocktails ($4–$8). If the $50 is not used entirely the night of the concert, customers can come back any time before the expiration date. To redeem today's Groupon, registration for your chosen event is required at least one week in advance, so be sure to check the schedule ahead of time.
