Nope. Sorry, but sharing tips in this game would not be a good idea!

Search for $20,000 buried between Boston and Newburyport; premium pass holders get better clues and eventually the coordinates of the money

The Deal

  • $15 for a premium pass to The X Marks ($25 value)

During The X Marks extreme scavenger hunt, participants search for $20,000 buried in 20 different locations between Boston and Newburyport. Each location has up to $2,500, and if you find it, you can keep it. All locations are on public property, and at each one, you will find an orange “X” above ground or partially above ground. Nearby is a container above ground or no deeper than 12 inches underground that contains half of the reward. To obtain the other half, you must call the phone number inside the box. Once you find the first half, the money’s original owner, Patrick, will meet you at the location to take your picture, which will be posted to The X Marks website for others to see. Every few days, a free clue is released.

On September 30, the exact coordinates to all unfound locations (with a minimum of $15,000 still available to find) will be released to premium pass holders. Premium pass holders also get clues 24 hours before everyone else, as well as better/more informative clues. They get exclusive bonus money drops and text message alerts, too.

About The X Marks

Imagine $20,000 buried in 20 holes throughout the Boston area. Not even deep holes, either. Imagine the cash just a foot below the surface, waiting to be dug up. It sounds like a spin on the movie Rat Race, but the cash is real and really out there at sites on public property marked with orange Xs. The money's original owner, Patrick Tarmey, loves competitions more than his money, so now he's hosting the ultimate scavenger hunt: find his cash first, and it's yours.

In another act of generosity, Patrick helps participants on their quests. Every few days, he releases a new clue about the cash's location online, including the cryptic "Stop digging up my house's foundation, please." On September 30, he'll go even further, releasing the exact coordinates of all the remaining stockpiles to anyone with a premium pass. The X Marks scavenger hunt is in partnership with David Arquette.
