The Yard of Ale
The legend of the yard of ale stretches back hundreds of years to merry old England, where it's said that British coachmen would consume beer from a three-foot glass to wile away the evening as their passengers attended social functions and got piggy-back rides from peasants. The beer-drinking tradition is very much alive at the Yard of Ale, where guests sip from 36-inch glasses filled with 40 ounces of draft beer. Of course, there are regular-sized brews as well. The selection of bottled beers includes Breckenridge vanilla porter and Original Sin cider.
But drinking is only half the fun at The Yard of Ale. Guests can also explore chef Brian Simmons's menu of upscale American cuisine, such as crab-stuffed chicken and the very popular slow-roasted prime rib. To make his dishes, the chef uses local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible through a partnership with Pleasantview Farms. Other foodstuffs come from the restaurant's own veggie and herb gardens, which are nourished by organic compost made onsite.
