On Saturday, September 20, the Zombie Race takes over Six Flags Great Adventure with zombies and extra-adrenaline-filled runners. 5K runners ages 9 and up will choose their wave time upon registration, and the 15K starts at 2 p.m. Before or after they complete the challenge, runners have access to all the attractions of Six Flags Great Adventure, including plummeting coasters, cartoon-themed rides, and a giant Ferris wheel.

On top of all that, September 20 marks the start of Fright Fest, which fills the park with haunted mazes, Halloween-themed entertainment, and still more zombies. Before 6 p.m., it’s kid-friendly, but things get spookier after that. All festivities are included with race entry—runners will only need to pay an $11.50 registration fee when they sign up on the Zombie Race website.

About The Zombie Race at Six Flags Great Adventure

Miles of celluloid are dedicated to movie characters fleeing zombies, but during the real-world Zombie Race, evading flesh-feasting beasties is just one of the tasks. Racers must not only protect their three health tags—losing all three means not “surviving”—but they must also navigate the course’s military-style obstacles, such as winning the affection of a withholding drill sergeant. Refugees of the imaginary Ragnarok traipse along balance beams, slog headlong through a mud pit, or crawl, clamber, and sprint through any number of impediments. At the finish line, muddied survivors collect a finisher’s medal before entering an apocalypse-themed post-race party, complete with live entertainment, snacks, and beer.
