In what's become a popular Christmas tradition in the D.C. region, Theater Alliance performs their joyous production of Langston Hughes' Black Nativity. First performed in 1961, Hughes' song-play is a retelling of the Christmas story from an Afro-centric perspective, created to explore the depths of cultural identity, pride and unity within the African-American community. The production is infused with rich, moving music, dance and griot-style storytelling. Using the sounds, energy and enthusiasm of gospel, blues, jazz and funk music to tell the Nativity story makes for a holiday show that people of all races and backgrounds can enjoy.
This show is recommended for children age 5 or older.
