About Theater Works in Bellevue


Something magical happens at the theater: cardboard sets become a 3D world, imaginary creatures come to life, and people—especially youth—discover their passions. Each summer, Theatre Works in Bellevue hosts theater classes and camps for kids to foster that extraordinary atmosphere. They're held at Bellevue High School's Performing Arts Center and led by artists who are deeply involved in education, the school's theater department, and the local theater scene.

The Imagine It! and Fairies and Elves camps, for instance, encourage young children to open up and let their imaginations run wild. Improv-a-Thon teaches improvisational techniques and games while building students' confidence, trust, and teamwork. Intensive theater camps result in final productions in which campers perform the roles, build the sets, and create the costumes. As they learn, kids will gain the confidence to take on new roles, speak their minds, and pursue their creative dreams. Available classes camps, and courses:

  • "Storybook Theatre"

The class designed for kids who enjoy using their imagination and play "let's pretend". Includes:

  • Playing theater games

  • Singing songs

  • Acting out one of the favorite books or tales (props, costumes, and a fun craft project)

  • Short show taking place on the final day (family and friends are welcome as the audience)

    • "Peter Pan's Adventure"

Camp intended for children who want to start the journey with the theater by exploring the Never Never Land. Each child can act as the chosen character: fairy, mermaid, pirate or one of the lost boys. Includes:

  • Games

  • Songs

  • Movement activities

  • Handmade crafts,

  • Short show taking place on the final day (family and friends are welcome as the audience)

    • "Follow The Yellow Brick Road"- During the course students can Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Land of Oz where they can replay an adaptation of the classic story of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion, written by L. Frank Baum in the original musical setting. No prior experience is required - newcomers, who want to enjoy the fun are welcome. Includes:
  • Mask making

  • Theater games

  • And more

  • Short show taking place on the final day (family and friends are welcome as the audience)
