A philosopher once called theater “the mask of convention over the face of society in the mirror of the unknown reflecting the rear-view of the sports car of destiny.” Simplify this theory with today’s family-friendly theatrical Groupon: for $40, you get a family four pass for the Theatre of Youth Company (an $84 value). The pass grants four seats to any performance in the next year. Call the box office at the historic Allendale Theatre to reserve seats and a time (subject to availability).

Theatre of Youth specializes in kid-friendly performances that engage young minds and captivate grown-up grown-ups. They produce five literary-based productions and two health and wellness productions each year. Since 2000, more than half a million children have gotten their jollies from the popular productions, which are known for their high production value and quality acting. Upcoming plays include the informative Inside Out that wraps an entertaining story around a lesson that encourages healthier eating habits. This Holiday season, catch A Little House Christmas which is adopted from the famed Little House on the Prairie series, or peer into the future and reserve seats for a stage adaptation of Judy Bloom's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, opening next March.

The Theatre of Youth has received press reviews for many of its recent productions. Its production of a play about Amelia Earhart received special praise from a reader in the Buffalo news. Productions of The Snow Queen and Click, Clack, Moo were also popular with the Buffalo News. The theatre has more than 800 Facebook fans:

  • Please do go see it—it’s a jewel. We are so lucky to have this excellent company in our midst. I’m never disappointed. – Bonnie Botsford, Buffalo News
  • As ice blanketed the streets outside, the story’s heartwarming effects were felt inside the company’s gorgeous Allentown [sic] theater. – Jana Eisenberg, Buffalo News

I recently took my two sons, ages 7 and 5, to see James & the Giant Peach. What a wonderful production! My older son wouldn't even sit back in his seat because he wanted to see everything. The cast was great and the way they portrayed certain events was very creative. My kids loved it!... Read More
